Janitorial & Cleaning Insurance in Indiana
Indiana janitorial and cleaning businesses should match insurance to the facilities and surfaces they service. Describe office cleaning, residential jobs, floor care and post-construction cleanup separately, and review damage to the customer’s property before choosing a policy.
Also for house cleaning, commercial janitorial, and maid services.

What cleaning business insurance costs in Indiana
Our lowest bound general liability policy for cleaning businesses is $200/yr, a policy we wrote for a janitorial company. That is our lowest real price, not an average or a Indiana rate. Your price usually goes up with sales, payroll, the type of work you do and claims.
Prepare annual receipts, payroll, subcontractor costs, claims history and the customer’s insurance exhibit. Ask about property being cleaned, key access, floor treatments, after-hours work and occasional specialist jobs. Compare the full cost and accepted operations; a generic cleaning starting price does not establish your Indiana premium.
| Coverage | Typical cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| General liability (bound) | from $200/yr | Our lowest bound policy for this trade: a janitorial company. A real policy, not an estimate. |
| Your general liability quote | Individual quote | Based on accepted operations, limits, deductibles, revenue, and claims. |
| Workers’ compensation | Individual quote | Review state requirements, entity structure, payroll, and work classifications. |
| Vehicles, tools, and other coverage | Separate review | Match each policy to owned or rented assets and customer requirements. |
The price shown is the lowest general liability premium in our own book for this trade as of 2026-10-02, labelled bound (a policy we wrote). Your premium depends on your work, sales, payroll, location, limits and claims. It is not a quote or an offer of insurance. No state-specific average premium is claimed here. Cohesive can request quotes after reviewing your operation. Coverage is subject to insurer acceptance and policy terms.
What moves your price
- ✓Which facilities and surfaces do you clean?
- ✓Do you strip or wax floors, work at height or handle specialist hazards?
- ✓Who performs the work, and what are payroll and subcontractor costs?
- ✓What does the customer require before allowing your crew on site?
The coverage an IN cleaning business needs
Review damage to surfaces or items being cleaned separately from the main liability limit. An extension may have a smaller sublimit and workmanship exclusions.
Check employee coverage, owner treatment and subcontractor conditions against the actual staffing and state requirements.
Ask about lost keys, equipment carried between facilities and commercial vehicle use. These are not automatically included in GL.
What's different about Indiana
State resources checked . Confirm current requirements with the linked agencies.
Check employer coverage and working relationships
Use Indiana’s Worker’s Compensation Board resources to check employer obligations, coverage evidence and independent-contractor arrangements. The Board provides separate resources for employers and independent contractors; a payment label alone does not settle the relationship.
Indiana Worker’s Compensation Board: employer resources →Keep the customer’s property question specific
Describe a realistic loss: a floor treatment damages the floor, a worker breaks an unrelated item, or keys are lost. Ask how the proposed policy responds to each, including any customer-property extension, exclusion, deductible or sublimit.
Prepare the facility’s vendor request before the first shift
For a multi-site office contract, send the legal entities, locations and insurance exhibit before asking for a certificate. Identify clinics, kitchens, elevated windows and post-construction work separately instead of relying on the job title “janitorial.”

Frequently asked questions
How much does cleaning business insurance cost in Indiana?
Our lowest bound general liability policy for cleaning businesses is $200/yr, a policy we wrote for a janitorial company. That is our lowest real price, not an average or a Indiana rate. Your price usually goes up with sales, payroll, the type of work you do and claims.
Does janitorial insurance cover damage to the floor I clean?
It depends on the proposed wording. Ask about property being worked on, care/custody/control exclusions, customer-property extensions and poor workmanship. A headline GL limit alone cannot answer the question.
Can I get a certificate for an Indiana office-cleaning contract?
If appropriate coverage is in force, ask the servicing agent for a certificate using the customer’s exact legal name and requirements. Any required coverage or endorsement must exist in the policy; typing it on a certificate does not create it.
Is residential cleaning the same as commercial janitorial work?
Describe both when you do both. Customer types, cleaning methods and specialist operations can affect the correct classification and eligibility. Do not change the work description just to reach a lower price.
