Pool Construction Insurance in Texas
Building a pool involves excavation, structural work and several trades. Describe what your crew builds and what you subcontract so Cohesive can request insurance for the actual operation, including gunite, fiberglass or vinyl-lined installations.
For swimming pool builders, installers, repair businesses and maintenance contractors. Include hot tub installation if it is part of your work.

What pool contractor insurance costs in Texas
Our lowest bound general liability policy for pool contractors is $916/yr, a policy we wrote for a pool contractor in Texas. That is our lowest real price, not an average or a Texas rate. Your price usually goes up with sales, payroll, the type of work you do and claims.
Separate new pool construction, renovation and maintenance receipts. Include annual payroll, subcontractor costs, project values and claims history. Compare quotes using the same revenue and work description: a pool-cleaning starting price does not establish the cost of insuring a builder. This page does not claim a verified Texas construction premium.
| Coverage | Typical cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| General liability (bound) | from $916/yr | Our lowest bound policy for this trade: a pool contractor in Texas. A real policy, not an estimate. |
| Your general liability quote | Individual quote | Based on accepted operations, limits, deductibles, revenue, and claims. |
| Workers’ compensation | Individual quote | Review state requirements, entity structure, payroll, and work classifications. |
| Vehicles, tools, and other coverage | Separate review | Match each policy to owned or rented assets and customer requirements. |
The price shown is the lowest general liability premium in our own book for this trade as of 2026-10-02, labelled bound (a policy we wrote). Your premium depends on your work, sales, payroll, location, limits and claims. It is not a quote or an offer of insurance. No state-specific average premium is claimed here. Cohesive can request quotes after reviewing your operation. Coverage is subject to insurer acceptance and policy terms.
What moves your price
- ✓What share of receipts is new construction, renovation and maintenance?
- ✓Who excavates, installs the shell and performs electrical or plumbing connections?
- ✓Do you build retaining walls, raised pools or commercial pools?
- ✓What are your largest project value, subcontractor costs and required start date?
The coverage a TX pool contractor needs
Request review of the construction methods, excavation, underground property, subcontractors and post-completion damage. Compare exclusions and endorsements alongside limits and price.
Establish who insures materials and the pool while it is being built. Review equipment, business vehicles and workers’ compensation separately; general liability is not a substitute for those coverages.

Ask about the work and the completed project
Texas Department of Insurance distinguishes premises/operations liability from products/completed operations. For a pool builder, ask how the proposed policy treats injuries or property damage during construction and after handover. Coverage for repairing your own work and damage to other property must be reviewed in the actual policy.
Texas Department of Insurance: commercial general liability →Put each construction stage in the quote request
List excavation, shell installation, shotcrete or gunite, plumbing, electrical connections, decking and retaining walls. Identify the responsible business at each stage. Include residential versus commercial pools and any work on an existing structure; a maintenance-only description leaves out the construction you need reviewed.
Separate the builder’s contract from subcontractor insurance
Send the customer insurance exhibit, subcontractor agreements and available insurance evidence. Ask about uninsured subcontractors and any subcontractor conditions before accepting the quote. An all-subcontracted builder still needs its own role and receipts described accurately.
Review local approvals for the job address
Ask the relevant city or county about the project’s permits and inspections, and verify the credentials required for electrical, plumbing and other specialist tasks. Business registration, job approval and insurance are separate checks; do not treat a policy as permission to perform licensed work.

Frequently asked questions
How much does pool contractor insurance cost in Texas?
Our lowest bound general liability policy for pool contractors is $916/yr, a policy we wrote for a pool contractor in Texas. That is our lowest real price, not an average or a Texas rate. Your price usually goes up with sales, payroll, the type of work you do and claims.
Can pool maintenance insurance cover gunite construction?
Do not assume it does. Disclose gunite, excavation and structural work, then obtain a quote that accepts the actual operations. A policy issued for cleaning or servicing pools may have a different scope.
Can I request a quote if every trade is subcontracted?
Yes, submit the actual all-subcontracted arrangement for review. Provide gross receipts, subcontractor costs, agreements and insurance requirements. We’ll check which markets accept that arrangement before offering terms.
What should I send to compare Texas pool-builder quotes?
Send the same operation description, receipts, payroll, subcontractor costs, loss history and requested limits to each review. Include the existing policy and customer contract if available. Check completed operations and exclusions before treating a lower premium as equivalent coverage.
Does accepting gunite pool construction mean silica claims are covered?
No. Describe gunite or shotcrete application, concrete or tile cutting, and who performs each task. Request the actual silica, silica-related dust and pollution exclusions in the proposed policies. Review employee injury separately from claims by customers or neighbors. A subcontractor’s policy or an accepted construction classification does not by itself establish coverage for your responsibility.
